I haven't updated in a while, even though it's Spring Break. Problem is I've been busy working on this project from last quarter that I still haven't turned in yet. I hope to finish the report and turn it in by late Wednesday. Since last Monday, a couple interesting things have happened. In reverse order...

Mark, Craig, Leo, nak, and I were in Westwood tonight... we're walking back from Diddy Reise and the guy at Enzo's flags us down. He's trying to sell us an extra large pizza for $6. They're closing he says, so it's gotta go. $5, Craig says, and the guy takes it. So we split a big pizza for a dollar each and took it back to my place.

Before that, we'd been trying to go to CJ's Cafe, but it was closed again. It was closed when I tried to go there on Sunday night. I guess they went on Spring Break too? Who knows. We didn't want to go to Relaxtation though, that shit is overpriced. So we went to Westwood for cookies instead.

Earlier tonight Leo and nak were playing basketball at Wooden on campus and Leo decides to share a half-court with this black guy that's just practicing shots. Usually that's okay with people but this guy asked Leo to wait. His associate called out "six of six" and the guy shot another, missing. "Six of seven" and the guy shot another. "Six of eight..." "Six of nine." Leo goes up to shoot. "Hold on, I'm on a roll," the guy says. Leo says, "You haven't made one since I got here." Leo becomes aware of a crowd of black guys in the bleachers that start laughing. The guy shooting defends himself and him and Leo start talkin shit to each other while shooting on the same basket. Eventually the guy leaves with his friends and says "Alright man, the court's all yours." Later Leo meets with nak in the locker room and tells him the story. "Which guy was it, the one in the white headband?" "Yeah," Leo replies. nak explains, "Fuck man, that was Master P." Apparently he didn't know he was doggin on the CEO of No Limit Records.

Today Vivian got an internship with Interscope Records in the promotions (I think) department, which means now she gets free CDs and concert tickets. Maybe she'll be nice enough to take me some day. Congratulations Vivian, I hope the job works out well.

Late last week several professors from Carnegie-Mellon e-mailed me and congratulated me on being admitted to the PhD program for Electrical and Computer Engineering there. I still haven't received anything in the mail but I guess that means I got in. They said they would pay for me to fly out there but I don't think I want to... flying to the east coast is a pain in the ass and I'm already going back for another visit to Princeton on April 4th. Even though Carnegie-Mellon is ranked really high (it's usually ranked between 1 and 4) I don't think I'd want to go there. I dunno, I should check it out but the deadline to decide is April 15th. They really shoulda let me know earlier if they wanted me to seriously consider it.

Finals sucked. I hope I did okay. I guess it doesn't matter much, but I'd still like to do decently well in my classes.

I hate the war protesters. They sit outside the Federal all day and sometimes they get all rowdy and flow onto Wilshire Blvd. So then they close Wilshire Blvd and traffic from that 10-lane super-street ends up flowing 15 feet from where I'm sitting now on the 2-lane Ohio Ave. Flowing is a bad word... since it's pretty much just stopped. I remember when Bush issued the ultimatum they protested like mad and it was just about impossible for me to leave my apartment by car from noon until 8 PM. I wanted to go to Benito's for dinner around 6 but there was no way I was gonna get there in under half an hour. And Benito's is only a mile away.

Some of the protesters have really stupid signs too. One of the good ones said "Stop genocide." Maybe the guy holding that should direct his anger towards Saddam who killed thousands (millions?) of Kurds (and others) in Iraq because of their religion. The war is directed at stopping genocide... not creating it. Another guy said to "Impeach Bush." That could only happen if Bush committed an impeachable offense, which he has not. Going to war is not an impeachable offense. Sure, you can disagree with the war, but on what grounds could you impossibly impeach Bush? I dunno. Anyway, there's lots more stupid shit like that if you go look. I wanted to take pictures but I was too busy with finals. Darn...

My room is a fuckin mess. I use the excuse that I'm too busy to avoid cleaning it but I haven't done anything all day either. I need to study at least SOME for finals today. Another excuse: my room isn't as messy as my roommate's. I'm clean by comparison... or maybe filthy by association. Which is it?

Full moon with 3X zoom.
There was a full moon tonight. I wanted to take a picture but this is as close as I could get with the 3X optical zoom and full resolution. Maybe I'll try taking a picture through binoculars... that would be pretty weird. Of course I coulda just spent more money on a camera that takes zoom lenses... but then I'd have to buy lenses too and then it's a whole lotta extra money. I mean how often do I need to take pictures of the moon? Not very.

I will never peel and cut kiwi fruit again.
Last night I had some kiwi I bought from Ralphs and I ate it with a spoon, as I have in the past. However, tonight in some flash of lunacy I decided it would be better to peel them and slice them. Let me tell you that it is a lot harder to peel kiwi than you'd think. The skin doesn't stay together so forget doing it with your fingers/nails. Knives are easier but the small kiwi don't have flat surfaces for the knife to get under. It took me forever to peel one (with hands) and I decided it might be faster with a knife, but the second kiwi still took a long time. Being the stubborn freak that I am I was determined to peel the remaining two and now use the spoon technique. So I spent about 20 minutes peeling the kiwi, and about 3 minutes eating the kiwi. Not worth it, huh. After all my hard work I decided to take a picture. The ridiculous part is I even posted the high resolution version (the image is clickable). High resolution kiwi! What is this site coming to?

At least I got 480% of my daily Vitamin C.

When I woke up this morning I didn't just hear the rain pouring outside, I heard a free car wash. Now I gotta find a place to park outside.
I parked it on the top level of Lot 9 while I worked on my project in my office. Car is clean(er) now. =)

Well, I'm back from Princeton. The school is really cool, I think I'd enjoy going there. I don't think I'd like living there though, so I dunno what I'm gonna do yet. I can start with a recap of the trip though.

Let's see.. I left at 7:00 Saturday morning to get to LAX. I made it there with plenty of time. I set off the metal detectors and had to sit and get inspected closely for a while. I think it was my shoes that set it off. Apparently they have metal in them. So after that I sat in the terminal for a while, called my parents, talked to them. The plane took off at 9:00 and I began my flight to Chicago.

Descending into the clouds above Chicago.
I haven't flown in a long time so it was kinda fun. I made sure I had an aisle seat on all the flights so I could see everything. It's weird flying over the US, seeing all this interesting stuff but not knowing where you are. When we went to descend into Chicago the air traffic control put us in a holding pattern because of rain and winds in Chicago.

Just before landing in Chicago.
After we passed through the clouds I got to see the grey, dreary ground that is Chicago. I was taking pictures of some of the snow covered houses on the way down but that was getting boring so I put my camera back in my lap. Right as I approached the airport I saw some interesting trains so I quickly put the camera to the window and pressed the button. I think I caught it just right, the picture turned out good. =)

From Chicago I took the plane to Newark, getting there around 7:30 at night. My instructions were to take the train to Princeton Junction so after asking around I found where to go to do that. The train station was really empty, it was kind of freaky. But once I got on the train there were more people so it was okay.

The NJ Transit train station at Newark International Airport.
I took a taxi from the train station to the hotel and then walked to the mall next door and got a cheesesteak sandwich. I ate that then went to hang out with a couple grad students. We went to a bar in the basement (?!) of the graduate dorms and sat there for a while, then walked around campus in the cold. I fell asleep as soon as I got back to my hotel room. I had to wake up and change and shower in the middle of the night. So that was Friday. More on Saturday later.

All the buildings at Princeton look really old, probably because they are old.

I took a nice warm shower a little while ago. Appreciate your hot water folks, it sucks when it goes out like it did last night. I had to take a cold shower last night... there's nothing more I hate in this world than that. Except maybe EE lab. Okay, EE lab is worse. But cold showers are bad.

A shameless Nak blatantly violates the "No porn" policy at CJ's Cafe.
But really he just reads Playboy for the articles (inset).
Nak, Mark, and I went to CJ's earlier for some boba. Nak brought the latest Playboy because he was reading it when we all decided to go. Normal people might feel shameful reading porn in a public place but not Nak. Not me or Mark either, apparently. On the way out we saw a Porsche in the parking lot. But no biggie, right? I remember growing up in OC it was a big deal to see a Porsche driving around, or parked somewhere. But over here it's hard not to see 10 if you drive around a few minutes. I guess people are too rich in West LA. (Yes I'm jealous.)

Nak making sure the owner didn't leave the door unlocked...
